a round of applause to my favourite player of all time ; PAOLO MALDINI

when he took on Treviso at Padova today [just finished watching the game!], he sets a record for Serie A appearances --> for the 571st time in Italy's top flight --took him past Dino Zoff's record of 570 games.

It is the second time that the 37-year-old has broken an appearance record set by former Juventus keeper Zoff -- Maldini replaced the captain of Italy's 1982 World Cup-winning side as the national side's most capped player, a record he still holds with 126 appearances.

Maldini, who made his Serie A debut in a 1-1 draw with Udinese on January 20 1985 [that's 20 years ago], has played 801 games [average of 40 games a season!!!] in all competitions for the club where he has spent the whole of his career.

and to round up what has been a wonderful for Milan and Maldini, he announced that his son [Christian] is due to start his career with the club in the youth programme.

another round of applause to Shevchenko

he score his 150th goal for AC Milan -- equaling Josè Altafini's 150-record for Milan. which made him the 3rd all time-scorer for the Rossoneri and more to come..

despite Alberto Gilardino and Christian Vieri arrived amidst much adulation at Milan this summer, but Andriy Shevchenko [from the start of the season] underlined that he is still the No 1 Rossoneri striker at the San Siro.

It could have been easy to forget about Shevchenko, given the widespread praise heaped on the club following the captures of Gilardino and Vieri. even Shevchenko made a comment that he might score less goal this season, but now, he has scored 4 goals out of 5 games..

regardless of what the price tag are...Shevchenko is priceless; his goals brings Milan to where they are now..
