2 days in the ICU, already getting the hang of it....

it is certainly different from the ward setting.. got 2 registrars, 2 residents, and bunch of consultants hanging around the unit... cant talk to the patient because most of them either uncouncious, sedated, intubated, wearing CPAP and basically half dead... all the patient coming to the ICU already got IV drip and whole other line going into their body; only the cool procedure like intubation, central line etc were left for the medical staff.. so, there's not a lot of things a medical student like could do there doesnt it?

well, i take the easy options by standing back and observe all the cools things being done, running like mad all over the hospital when there is a METCALL or CODE BLUE and looking pretty much stupid by asking thousands of questions to the resident and making errmmm noise when were ask by the consultant.. OMG; they just loved blood gases

this morning was crazy... i just stick with Adrian and poor guy, he didnt manage to intubate the patient, didnt manage to put a central line and at the same time; manage to give the patient TENSION PNEUMOTHORAX... and then, he was instructed by Chris Wright [yeay! i was allowed to call him Chris; Dr. Wright just sounds so wrong] to teach me how to do venous blood gases ... we manage to poke the patient 3-4 times without getting any blood out.. talk about having a bad day!! i thought he was just joking when he said that he wanted to shred the ICU list and "pretend today never happen" coz he seems very calm after all of that.. and he did just that before he leave at 2pm..

hope tomorrow gonna have a lot of actions.. it good news for me; though not a good thing for the doctors!
