another fabulous day at the ICU

we got a guy with literally open chest; only covered by a tape coz might crush the heart if we close it... that's the only way to keep him alive until he improve haemodynamically; or getting a new heart which would never happen...

got to watch bronchoalveolar lavage where bronchoscope is passed through the mouth into the lung and fluid is squirted into a small part of the lung and then recollected for examination. then got to watch another 2 percuteneous tracheostomy, where Marc cooly explains the steps of the procedure...

i got to assist on the second procedure; where my job is to hold the tube; even if things were falling apart e.g. cardiac arrest: HOLD the TUBE.. it's 4.30 pm, and i've been standing up straight for at least 20 minutes.. then, started feeling lightheaded, nauseus... turn straight to Chris; who is at my side and ask him to hold the tube, as i know; if i dont sit down in 5 seconds, definately gonna faint ...cant believe this happen to me at that particular time!! damn you, vasovagal syncope

it served me right, for thinking that i could survive the day by drinking only 150ml of water within 10 hours with litte food in my tummy.. plus, i was basically standing and walking for 9 hours; running around the ICU..

but, i still got the time to put a nasogastric tube, before i was kicked out of ICU by Chris with an instruction to GO HOME and EAT!!!!
